Acronymolalia

This documentary is about a relatively unknown condition called Acron-ymo-lalia which now affects hundreds of people world-wide.

Those diagnosed with the condition can only speak in an unique language, the parts of which are comprised mostly of acronyms that have evolved from online communication. Although its thought they can understand english those diagnosed with the condition, for reasons yet to be discovered, only ever use this new vocabulary. Being understood becomes practically impossible, resulting in confusion, rejection, resentment and anger and eventually the patient disengages totally with the real world.

The patient then spends all of their waking hours on-line, communicating with others that share the same affliction. Gradually the patient stops taking any interesting in their physical selves and require constant care at specialist centres like the one featured in this film.
