Media Mediators

Media Mediators explored movement in networked products. A suite of prototypes were built, which received signals broadcast from a PC playing enriched media. This allowed a user to make films that controlled the movement of objects in their home.

The research was supported by the Helen Hamlyn Research Centre and Philips Design, linking to a research culture interested in exploring the semantics of movement in digital products for the home. A source of inspiration for the Mediators was amBX, an API for games developers to add hooks to control peripherals including vibrating chairs, lighting and fans.

Tobie Kerridge worked with Any Law on the prototypes and networking, Murat Konar built a modified Quicktime player to send control messages to the protoypes.
